Some years ago, inspired by the Christopher Smart quotation from his ‘Jubilate Agno’ which forms the subtitle to this site, I started collecting quotations on the theme of diving for pearls. It seemed a theme rich and strange, and one which had attracted a wide range of authors, particularly poets. I interpreted the theme quite broadly, to include texts that refer generally to locating precious stones beneath the waters, and to pearls as tears. Years later, I have used a blog to present this collection of quotations, to which I have added new texts, images and anything else that took my fancy.
This blog is now closed, but is being kept as it is for anyone interested to browse the collection.
